Vista Imaging Introduces New ViCAM Digital Camera

High Speed, Full-Color Desktop Video Camera Produces Motion Video at up to 30 Frames per Second & Offers 24-bit True Color Image Capture

BELMONT, CA  (November 3, 1997)  Vista Imaging, Inc., a leading developer of advanced technology digital cameras and software products, announces the immediate availability of ViCAM, a new high-speed, high-resolution desktop color digital video camera for IBM PC compatible computers.

ViCAM interfaces to a standard parallel port and produces fast, 30 frame per second video in full color in support of motion video applications, and features high quality, 24-bit true color still image capture in resolutions ranging from 160 x 120 to 1280 x 960. It also offers support for up to 16.8 million True Colors and 256 grey scale formats. In addition, ViCAM features the unique ability to capture images in extremely low light environments, and includes an IEEE-1284 compatible parallel pass-through device to allow printing from the same parallel port without the need to disconnect the camera to access the printer.

ViCAM is delivered with user-friendly Viewer software that enables users to control all features of the camera, and includes standard TWAIN and AVI drivers as well. This makes it compatible with programs such as Adobe PhotoShop and Microsoft NetMeeting, and with scores of other off-the-shelf programs available for image capture and editing, video conferencing and e-mail, and remote site monitoring.

"The ViCAM camera will out-perform anything in its price range, and even some cameras that cost significantly more," said Chris Dopp, President of Vista Imaging, Inc. "Its affordable price makes it ideal for use in supporting personal desktop video applications, and its performance capabilities enable it to also support the more demanding video needs of a wide spectrum of business applications."

ViCAM operates without requiring an add-in card, and is completely powered by the PC, making it ideal for laptops or in moving between desktop systems in a busy office without the need to install hardware in each system. Additionally, Vista Imaging offers easily changeable lenses with an optional lens pack for wide-angle, standard and close-up applications.

ViCAM requires a 386, 486 or Pentium IBM-compatible PC with Windows 3.1, Windows 95 or Windows NT. A Pentium computer with ECP/EPP printer port is recommended for motion video applications, and a 24-bit graphics card is required to view True Color images.

The suggested retail price for ViCAM is $199.95. It includes a copy of MGI VideoWave SE+, a customized version of MGI Software’s VideoWave desktop video publishing software, MGI PhotoSuite SE PC photography software, Microsoft NetMeeting videoconferencing software, and a trial version of Visionics' FaceIt, a face recognition software. ViCAM can be ordered through the Micro Warehouse catalogue (toll free at 800/397-8508 or at www.warehouse.com) and can be ordered directly from Vista Imaging.
