Vista Imaging Announces its New ‘ViCAM-USB’ Digital Camera
Fully USB-compliant, Full-Color Desktop Video Camera Produces Motion Video at up to 60 Frames per Second & Requires Less CPU Overhead

SAN CARLOS, CA - (July 20, 1998)—Vista Imaging, Inc., a leading developer of advanced technology digital cameras and software products, today announced ViCAM-USB, a fully USB-compliant version of its high-speed, high-resolution desktop color digital video camera for IBM PC and compatible computers. Compatible with Windows 95 and Windows 98, ViCAM-USB easily connects to a standard USB interface, producing motion video in up to 60 frames per second in full color, and requiring less CPU overhead than conventional digital cameras.

The versatile ViCAM-USB also features high quality, 24-bit true color still image capture in resolutions ranging from 128 x 96 up to 1,280 x 960, and offers support for up to 16.8 million True Colors and 256 grey scale formats as well. In addition, with sensitivity of less than 1 lux, the ViCAM-USB features the unique ability to capture images in extremely low light environments. The ViCAM-USB also supports the use of a longer cable than earlier generation cameras (i.e., up to 5 meters and longer by adding hubs), and is designed to require minimal user intervention—features that make it ideal for use in supporting highly popular WebCam applications.

ViCAM is delivered with user-friendly Viewer software that enables users to control all features of the camera, and includes standard TWAIN and AVI drivers as well. This makes it compatible with programs such as Adobe PhotoShop and Microsoft NetMeeting, and with scores of other off-the-shelf programs available for image capture and editing, video conferencing and e-mail, and remote site monitoring via WebCams.

"With its low-cost and its ability to support up to 60 frames per second of full motion video, the ViCAM-USB is well-suited to meet the needs of both personal and business users for premium quality video performance at an affordable price," said Chris Dopp, President of Vista Imaging, Inc. "We in particular see it as an excellent solution for those users interested in implementing WebCams as a part of their Internet home pages," he added.

ViCAM-USB operates without requiring an add-in card, and is completely powered by the PC, making it ideal for laptops or in moving between desktop systems in a busy office without the need to install hardware in each system. Additionally, Vista Imaging is the only digital camera supplier to offer color-coded, easily changeable lenses with an optional Lens Pack for wide-angle, standard and close-up applications.

ViCAM-USB requires a Pentium IBM-compatible PC with a USB interface, and Microsoft Windows 95 or Windows 98. A 24-bit graphics card is also required to view True Color images.

For added value, Vista Imaging ships each ViCAM-USB with a copy of MGI VideoWave SE+, a customized version of MGI Software’s VideoWave desktop video publishing software, MGI PhotoSuite, the world’s best selling consumer photo editing program, Stefra Corp.’s Video Control, and Microsoft NetMeeting videoconferencing software. Trial versions of face recognition software from Visionics (FaceIt) and Miros (TrueFace) are included as well, as is a copy of Prescient Systems’ innovative Gotcha! package that supports time lapse photography and motion sensing functionality.

ViCAM-USB sells for a suggested retail price of only $199.99, and it will be available during August 1998 through a variety of mail order and retail outlets or directly from Vista Imaging.
