FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Vista Imaging Announces USB Video Class Device SupportSAN CARLOS, CA – Dec. 01, 2003 – Vista Imaging announced today it has added support for the USB Video Class specification to it’s ViCAM® III Digital Imaging Engine product family. Video Class support is now available in the form of a USB web cam reference design running on the ViCAM® III hardware development platform. The spec, USB Video Class Specification 1.0, defines a standard to which operating system vendors and hardware manufacturers can develop USB video streaming devices. “The speed and ease with which the USB Video Class support was added to the ViCAM® III platform is a perfect example of the power and flexibility of the ViCAM® III architecture,” according to Christopher Dopp, President and CEO of Vista Imaging. “USB Video Class support makes adding a compatible video device as easy as adding a mouse or keyboard, just plug and play.” Available at no cost to customers of the ViCAM®
III, the USB Video Class firmware reference design allows USB camera and video
device manufacturers to immediately begin product development in anticipation of
operating system video device support. With native operating system support, USB
Video device manufacturers can avoid the complexity of developing and installing
custom device drivers. The current USB Video Class reference design supports
MJPEG and Uncompressed video formats along with typical camera controls such as
Brightness and Saturation, for example. In MJPEG format, the ViCAM®
III supports video capture of VGA resolution images at up to 30 frames per
second over a USB 1.1 compatible host. The ViCAM® III incorporates Vista Imaging’s advanced image processing datapath, a multi-endpoint USB 1.1 controller, industry standard JPEG Codec, powerful RISC processor, frame memory controller, audio codec interface, and processor expansion port. Input can be from nearly any CCD or CMOS sensor up to 16 megapixels in size as well as standard video decoders for accepting video from camcorders, TV’s and VCR’s. The ViCAM® III is currently shipping in volume and is available in 144, 208 and 256 pin Ball Grid Array (BGA) packages. Pricing is under $5 depending upon package and quantity.
